Lionel Trains & Furniture

The Lionel train sale continues this week.  Items were sold, but there is still a good selection of cars, engines, and accessories.  Anyone looking for a specific piece can contact me at any time and I can see if it is available.  We recently purchased the balance of 2 households--the building is very crowded with furniture.  Anything is for sale now, but will probably have a "Household/Estate Sale" coming up.  Lots of nice clean furniture and household items.

Internet Shopping

A beautiful week in Wisconsin!  Along with beautiful 'almost fall' weather should be lots of Rustic Shop customers--unfortunately, even on a busy highway, that's not the case.  Traffic off the highway is very minimal, so I am not going to try to post weekly hours--I haven't done a very good job of it anyhow.  Most of my business come from internet sales--ebay and craiglist listings.  I post larger items on either Madison or Dubuque craigslist and I always use "Montfort WI" in the location.  I am trying to get to the point of using this site--or my website--www.somanblinds.com-- to list larger items.  I have a nice Lionel Train collection that I hope to inventory and start selling in a few weeks.  I will post it on here plus in some local papers.  We are also hoping to restock our furniture inventory which is getting low.  So, business is moving along, but just adjusting to the current trends of shopping.  As always, feel free to call me if you are in the area and I will try to be open.  Thanks, Dan

Rustic Shop Update

Willow Child's Chair $45
Some of my willow items are back from a gallery in Mt. Horeb--so a good selection of willow items.  Both of these items will be classes I am teaching at The Woodlanders Gathering in Mineral Point in July.
Willow Rustic Basket $16
It has certainly been a busy time--unfortunately the busyness has not allowed me to be open like I wish I could.  A lot of time has gone into following up on calls and auction buying--so I am developing a nice inventory.  With other obligations until almost the middle of June--it doesn't allow much time for being in The Rustic Shop.  I am planning a special promotion in the middle of May--antiques and willow furniture.  There are items listed on Craigslist--most of them under either antiques or furniture--on Madison and Dubuque.  Otherwise, if you are looking for something special--call me.

Week of March 7

Nice Apt size table and 2 oak chairs $125
Open this week on Tuesday afternoon--hopefully most of the day on Wednesday--closed on Thursday.  Not sure about Friday and Saturday yet.  Hours sound uncertain--but some obligations this week.  Made a buying trip last weekend, but not too successful--a good auction listing, but not the quality of items I had hoped for.  Spring is coming--right?  In a few weeks we will highlight some of the willow pieces meant for the outdoors.  I'm sure a few more weeks and we will be thinking spring!

Getting Settled

Keller Solid Maple China Cabinet $250
The past few days has been a little like moving into a different home.  We now have one business property--The Rustic Shop on Hwy 18.  I have been unpacking boxes and finding places to put things.  Even though we have had the building for over a year, the last things to be moved were tools, supplies, antique items, and personal collection items.  There is much to do, but progress is going well.
We also have many new/old items--we purchased a household in mid December and are starting to get some of those things set up.  There are household items, glassware, cookbooks, furniture and more.  We will probably announce a "Household/Antique Sale" when we get everything sorted and set up.  The maple china cabinet is one of those pieces.  Also purchased a nice primitive blanket box.  As much as possible--hours will be 11 am to 5 pm Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday. Thank you to all who helped in any way the past weeks.  It was a big job sorting, setting up the auction, and moving the things we decided to keep.  We could not have done it without those who helped.  Thanks again!

Dovetailed Blanket Box $125

Auction this week

We are about ready for the auction in our downtown building--Thursday January 6 at 2pm.  It will be a relief to have it finished.  A lot of things have been taken 'up the hill' to the Rustic Shop, so there is a lot to do when I finally get settled there on a regular basis.  I will have things for sale that have been stored for many years--sure there will be lots on the auction, but I kept some things that I thought would be fun to show and sell in the shop.  Also, I purchased a small estate in December.  I have only been able to stack the boxes--so sometime in mid January I will sorting  and getting things out for sale.
